Patterdales Germany

2008 German Patterdale Terrier Festival

The 2nd German Patterdale Terrier Festival   held on July 12 and 13, 2008 in Pforzheim.

2008 GERMAN TERRIER FESTIVAL

The two (2) day event was held in Pforzheim, Germany at the same site as in 2006. An excellent venue with adequate space for both spectators and all terriers, the show grounds were provided by Alexander and Claudia Wochele.

The entries were excellent with over 90 terriers in the classes from the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, France,Switzerland and Italy.

Top Honors of the day went to CLOOT'S LIPS (a broken-coat black) as the Best Male, owned and shown by Erik Holthausen. This was Erik's second (2nd) win at this show as he took the 2006 Male Award with Cloot's Catcher.

Top Female of the day went to XIBI SRDCOVE ESO (a proper sized, smooth black) owned by Zuzana Hodova and shown very capably by her daughter, Linda. This is an outstanding winning Patterdale in the Czech Republic and is easy to see why.

In addition to confirmation classes, there were Terrier Time Trials; Go-to-Ground activities; and Schutzdienst (Attack/Guard dog) exhibitions. In both 2006 and again in 2008, it is surprising how well the Patterdale Terriers take to the Schutzdienst. Special Mention should go to Eva-Marie Pfeffinger and her Patterdale, WOCHELE'S GISMO. Eva had such excellent control of Gismo that she was able to control and “call off” on the efforts of her little terrier.

The European continent appears to have many quality Patterdales owned by numerous individuals. Three (3) breeders and kennels seem to be outstanding: Cloot's (Ronnie Cloot) from Belgium, Schwab's (Rudi Schwab) from Germany and Srdcove eso (Zuzana Hodova') from the Czech Republic.

Special thanks should go to Hermann Leis for his support of the show and taking care of the Judge by his generous use of his home and travel from the Airport and all around the area of the Pforzheim, Linden and Frankfort. By the way, Hermann had an excellent looking litter of Patterdale puppies at his home coming from working parents

We hope to see all of you again at the 2010 German Terrier Festival.....and it would not be a wasted effort if some of the American breeders/owners went over in 2 years. You just might be pleasantly surprised at the terriers, the friendly owners/breeders and Germany itself.
